iOS9 beta

Hi All,

Tried my Delphi app on iOS9 beta 5 and it crashes on startup (works fine in iOS 8.4). I have had much the same problem with various other iOS major updates in the past and it has usually required a Delphi update to fix.

I am currently using Delphi XE8 update 1. Does anyone know if a later version of Delphi will be required for iOS9, or if there are any 'tricks' to using iOS9 with the current version.

Thanks,
Giel -

iOS 9 beta 5 actually solved this problem for me. My Delphi apps wouldn't run with earlier betas, but they work fine with beta 5.

I have the same problem with my app (XE 8.1) and iOS 9 beta 5 hasn't stopped it crashing. It works fine on iOS 8.4 so must be an Apple/Delphi incompatibility.

Peter, did the beta 5 fix your issue?

Given its likely to launch on Sept 9th, I hope EMB release a fix quickly as I already have users down-rating my app because of this!

Does anyone know if a fix is being worked on?

Thanks

Same issue for me (XG Mobile Backgammon), even with beta 5. This is very concerning, I am not sure it is an Apple issue or Delphi issue, but i surely need one or the other to fix it, even if i've to release an update

Sorry, my english is bad.
I have a sample problem on IOS 9 GM with XE8.0.
I also tested a production application that is not mine (downloaded from de AppStore), I know that is made with Rad Studio and hangs on start.

How will fix ?. Will they release a patch of XE8 or will pretend that all we buy Seattle ?.

There is no guarantee that apps will continue to work or that they will continue to be supported by apps stores regardless of the tool you use to build it. For example, on Google Play if you have an app that uses an old version of OpenSSL Google will no longer accept that app even if you build it with Android Studio or Eclipse. Google also depreciates old APIs like In-App Payments v2.0 right out from under you. Facebook will also do this to you.

Embarcadero has said they do not support betas which is why people running beta IOS9 do so at their own risk. Apple itself abandons older devices (like some iPod Touch's which are stuck on IOS6). Part of having a mobile app is that you will be constantly updating it. And in fact a common re-engagement strategy on mobile is to update often because it sends a notification to your users about it which will usually get them to use your app again.

This is why mobile tool developers are using the SaaS model. The mobile OSes officially supported by Delphi Seattle are iOS 7.x, iOS 8.x, Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3, 4.0.4), Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3), Android Kit Kat (4.4), and Android Lollipop (5.x). According to Google 94% of all Android users have 4.0+.

It has been reported by some developers that Delphi Seattle apps also work on IOS9 which given it is being released today is a good thing.´╗┐

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Upgrading to Seattle resolved the issue. I can now build iOS 9 compatible apps (using iOS 9 release build)
Additionally I can now also compile without delphi crashing 3 or 4 times in the process before doing a successful build (presumably due to memory issues).
All in all a great (and long overdue) improvement.

With Seattle and XCode 7.0, the app can run as excepted in IOS9, but it will crash when the app launched. So what could I do? I hope that the app must be run well in IOS 9.0 and the previous versions such as IOS 8 and IOS 7. Is anybody can give me a hand. thx!

We also had the crash problem under iOS9 and apps build with XE8 and XCode6. I just installed the Delphi Seattle trial and XCode7 (with iOS 9 SDK) and the app build with that configuration runs fine on an iPad mini (32bit) with iOS9 , that is great !

But it crashes on an IPhone 6 with iOS 8.4.
I then created a fresh/new (64bit) test app with Delphi Seattle just containing a TTabControl and also this app crashes on startup on an iPhone6 with iOS 8.4 !

Can somebody confirm this ??

Again this is the crashing configutation: 64Bit release App, Delphi Seattle, XCode7 (with iOS 9 SDK) , iPhone6 with iOS 8.4

I have just tried a basic app with a TabControl and a button built with XCode 7.0 the the 9.0 SDK on Release mode and 32 bits on my iPad Mini with iOs 8.4 (it is not 64 bits) and it works well. It is not exactly your scenario, but similar.

We can not user Delphi Seattle and XCode 7 at the same time, I use Delphi Seattle and XCode 6, the app works well on IOS 7.0 and IOS 8.4 ans IOS 9

FYI. I have now tested my app on iOS 9.1 beta and it runs fine, so hopefully no more problems until iOS 10
