How to show hint for disabled controls like combo box and edit box

I have requirement to show hint when mouse over on combo box and edit box. It works fine when control is enabled (editable) but it fails when control is disabled (non editable or readonly). I have tried to implement in mouse over event of particular control but still the event is not triggered when it is disabled. Please suggest how to make this.
