I have reverse engineered/modelled several of the organisations datamodels. I am now trying to create a Data Lineage system detailing how the data flows from the various source systems into the various target areas, i.e. staging then EDW, etc.

I have read the help notes but am still quitre confused on how to set this up - let alone get a decent report out of it.

Does anyone know fo a decent tuorial - either written or video that i can study to give me a head start?

Cheers
John

I have a blog post discussing this exact thing. It shows you how to document and report out data lineage through a data warehouse. It does take advantage of ER/Studio's data lineage feature, but does not use any of its data lineage data flow diagrams. If you don't like the report it produces, the section on how to document the lineage should be helpful enough:

To speed up documenting the lineage they have an excel spreadsheet template that you can use to import the lineage from. You can produce this from running the Data Lineage Import from Excel macro on the macro tab. Then bind this macro to the node where you want to import lineage to i.e. right click any table you want to record lineage for and choose Add/Remove macro then pick Data Lineage Import from Excel. You can then run this macro and point to where the excel spreadsheet is to import. Much faster than manual entry.
