Bitmap.PixelFormat still a read only property?

I have a Firemonkey Imagecontrol I'm using to capture signatures in an Android and iOS app. The resulting bitmap isn't recognized by ReportBuilder (or Paintshop), and I think it's because the bit depth is too high. The bitmap is editable in Paint, and if I manually edit it and save it as 16-bit then it works fine. Based on my research, the Bitmap.PixelFormat was read only at one point, and still seems to be. Is there a workaround, without my having to write a VCL utility to reformat the bitmaps once they've been imported back into my VCL exe?

Postscript: I started to write a VCL utility to convert the bitmap, and the VCL dbimage control is complaining that the bitmaps are invalid, too.

Phil
