Software Developer to join established Development Team

KP Technology is seeking a software developer to join an expanding development team. The position will involve development of KP software (both new and existing) as well as our website which is undergoing review in accordance with projected company growth. KP systems are designed and assembled at KP Technology and many are configured to specific customer requirements – including software.

Candidates should have programming experience and be willing to learn Delphi. Development is carried out using the Embarcadero RAD Studio IDE. Our software has a sophisticated user interface with 3D data manipulation and mathematical processing, interfacing with various external devices via USB. Knowledge of RAD Studio, TeeChart, microcontrollers and/or MicroPascal would be advantageous but not a requirement as training will be provided on-site. A knowledge of physics, electronics, data analysis or materials would also be considered a plus.

Candidates should be comfortable working with modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and be capable of developing and maintaining a basic website. The current website is programmed using PHP but knowledge of similar technologies (such as Python/Django or Ruby on Rails) in addition to relational databases will be considered equally valid.

This client-facing role includes responding to feedback so the ability to write supporting documentation and display good communication and interpersonal skills is important. The development team comprises experienced instrumentation, electronics, materials and software engineers with a remit to patent novel technologies and bring to the market state-of-the-art scientific instruments to materials research customers in the public and private sectors.

We are actively considering applications. Please send a copy of your CV along with a covering letter describing why you are interested in this opportunity by 02/02/2018 to Company Director Prof. Iain Baikie: iain at kptechnology dot ltd dot uk.

KP Technology Profile

KP Technology is an award-winning company with an established track record of providing Kelvin Probe and Air Photoemission Spectroscopy surface analysis systems for materials analysis. Our patented measurement systems are used for characterisation of surface energy levels including work function and ionisation potential of nanotechnological films. We were recently announced as the Amazon Rural Business of the Year (2017) and have previously been presented UK Queens Awards for Innovation (2008) and International Trade (2013).

Based in Wick, North Scotland in an area of spectacular natural beauty with beaches, cliffs and the Orkney Islands close by, KP Technology offers the chance to work in a rural location as well as frequent opportunities for travel due to our international clientele. KP Technology supports 500 customers in 40 countries - notably NASA, European Space Agency, CERN and Harvard University.

We enjoy active collaborations with academic research groups including St Andrews University and Imperial College London, allowing for insight into research within an industrial setting but at the very forefront of knowledge. This year our equipment was involved in nearly 100 research publications covering topics such as organic photovoltaics, graphene, nanowire devices, metal oxides, perovskite solar cells, forensics, thin films, biological materials and semiconductors.

Company Director Prof. Iain Baikie won the IOP Swan Gold Medal 2015 for his contribution to the development of Kelvin Probe method instrumentation and Institute of Physics stated that ‘the world-wide impact of this relatively small British company is astonishing’.
