Does anybody know if it is possible in ERStudio to generate the "pure" ALTER statement instead of RENAME ... DROP ... CREATE ... sequence of statements? In other words I am making incremental change to the model and I want a DDL with ALTER TABLE MODIFY ... or ALTER TABLE ADD ... statements and I do not want the data copy to be part of the SQL script.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is an area in which ER/Studio is a lilttle deficient. In general, they have taken a path that is usable across all platforms, and thus it's often coded to the lowest common denominator. As far as I know, there is no option that directs ER/Studio to write "Intelligent Scripts".

Thank you for your response. At least I won't now damage my head banging it against the wall trying to find that hidden check-box to uncheck the option to re-create the tables ...

Best regards

Igor,

I am not sure what you are referring to, as I have not seen a way to do an ALTER when you are modifying a table structure beyond simply adding a column to the end of the table. In the case where you add a column to the end of a table, ER Studio currently does use the ALTER syntax. Is there another scenario that permits using an ALTER that I have not seen before?
